Two Kinds of “Or”

“Inclusive or,” or “exclusive or.” See what happens when the kid gets it wrong:

“Inclusive or” includes both items as one. That’s how the kid interpreted the question.

Obviously, the teacher meant an “exclusive or” —one choice or the other. Computer people spell the “exclusive or” this way: XOR.

Make sure you’re clear when you say “or.”
